BROMANTE’S SUMMER SLAM 100 RACE RAINS OUT IN ALABAMA
Montgomery, AL (June 19, 2017) – Giovanni Bromante was poised for a solid run in Saturday night’s Summer Slam 100 at Montgomery Motor Speedway until Mother Nature had other ideas. After delivering his best career qualifying time at the track, Bromante and the entire field of competitors sat helplessly as storms rolled into the facility, forcing a cancellation of the event just prior to the green flag.
In the interest of getting Giovanni more track time, David Gilliland Racing rolled into Montgomery on Friday for testing and spent most of the day working on various packages to find speed while helping Giovanni learn more about his racecar. Saturday’s intinerary was very similar with two half-hour practice sessions and a two-lap qualifying attempt laid out over the course of the afternoon. Bromante cracked the top ten in final practice and qualified just two tenths of a second off of the front row.
After the two preliminary races completed, rain rolled into the facility and forced officials to cancel the event.
“Overall, I think the weekend was great aside from the rain,” Bromante said following the event. “I believe I improved a lot from the last race in nearly everything, especially in feedback. The car was even better than last week, so we continue to work on my feedback to help the team improve the cars every week.
“I believe that’s why we were able to unload better, because I was able to provide them better information than even just a few weeks ago,” he added. “I couldn’t ask anything more of the DGR crew, they were fantastic, but it’s a bummer we didn’t race. Still, we made improvements on things and that helps to make it a great weekend.”
