Giovanni Bromante brought home a podium finish Saturday night at Orange County Speedway with the CARS Tour. The 15-year-old driver was in the mix to take the checkers at the end, but a few late-race cautions kept him to a third-place finish.
“It was just a really solid day from the start,” said Bromante. “There was hard, clean racing the entire race and I couldn’t ask for anything more than that. It was just an awesome experience.”
Bromante qualified 10th, but diligently worked his way through the field. By lap 111, he was in the top five. Ten laps later, he worked up to second and began to challenge leader Matt Craig for the top position. The two raced side by side with Bromante even leading a lap, but eventual winner Trevor Noles was closing in quickly and a few late race cautions didn’t play into the plans of Bromante and the No. 81 Anthony Campi Racing team.
“Those final 10 laps were an experience,” said Bromante. “Matt and I were racing very hard for about three or four laps, we were door to door and then Trevor Noles was faster than both of us, so he came into the mix and took it three wide a couple times. I just needed a little more time. We really had a long-run car so the short runs at the end weren’t the greatest for us handling-wise, but throughout the race our ACR car was fast and I couldn’t ask for anything more.”
Next-up for Bromante is a return trip to Five Flags Speedway for the final Blizzard Series race of the year on Saturday, September 21st. Bromante owns one Blizzard Series win and has not finished outside of the top-seven in the prior three races at the Florida half-mile.
